No Teens Identified in Steroid Ring Targeting High School Athletes

Law enforcement officers and local news media in Ohio have been publicizing the bust of a major steroid ring that targeted high school athletes. The Warren County Drug Task Force and the Warren County Prosecutor’s Office have done everything possible to create the perception that the 32 people indicted in the steroid operation were preying on teenage athletes in local area high schools. YMCA Fights Steroids with Christian Principles

Mike Carroll, the CEO of Countryside YMCA in Lebanon, has been celebrating his role as a whistleblower in a multi-jurisdictional investigation that resulted in the indictment of 32 individuals involved in a major steroid distribution ring. Carroll proudly told the media that he was the man responsible for alerting authorities to a steroid dealer at the YMCA which initiated the large-scale investigation. Furthermore, he bragged about secretly cooperating for two years with an undercover police officer who lifted weights with the express goal of infiltrating the local steroid scene at the gym. Gold Bull Pharma Busted in New Mexico Again

Steroid Underground Lab Shut Down with Help of YMCA in Operation Bulk Up

Mike Carroll, the President and CEO of Countryside YMCA in Lebanon (Ohio), kept a big secret for almost two years. He had alerted the Warren County Prosecutor’s Office of a rumor that there was a steroid dealer selling bodybuilding drugs to members in the Cardio Strength Center of the Y.

The prosecutor’s office alerted Major John Burke, the commander of the Warren County Drug Task Force, who spearheaded an investigation codenamed “Operation Bulk Up”. Major Burke dispatched an undercover officer from the Wilmington Police to pose as a member of the YMCA in search of steroids.

Mike Carroll was the only person at the YMCA who knew of the existence of an undercover officer seeking to infiltrate the steroid underground at the local Y. He received secret updates from the Drug Task Force every 4-6 months throughout the course of the two-year investigation. The tip ultimately led to the bust of a large-scale, multi-state steroid distribution organization. [Read more…]

Convicted Steroid Dealer Must Give Up All Assets to Avoid Prison

A convicted steroid dealer was ordered to relinquish his available assets to the government or face 15 months in prison. Broad was busted after police discovered a large quantity of oral and injectable anabolic steroids during the execution of a search warrant in June 2010. Broad pleaded guilty to five counts of possession of anabolic steroids with intent to supply. He was sentenced to 100 hours of unpaid community service. [Read more…]

Steroid Crimes Keep Man from Birth of First Child and Dying Mother

A leader of an underground lab (UGL) manufacturing anabolic steroids based in Lake Charles (Louisiana) was sentenced to two years imprisonment. Jordan Berza, the co-owner of Planet Nutrition, was the organizer of a steroid distribution business that imported raw steroid powders from China and Germany and converted them into private label injectable steroids. Berza and his co-defendants, including his business partner Chris Gass at Planet Nutrition, manufactured and sold over 7,000 ten milliliter vials of various steroids such as testosterone and Deca Durabolin. The steroids were sold throughout the States of Louisiana and Texas. Prosecutors claimed that Planet Nutrition was used as a distribution point from which steroids were shipped to distributors. Family Steroid Business Gets Police Detective in Trouble

Merseyside Police Detective Paul David Fletcher recently pleaded guilty to six counts involving conspiracy to supply anabolic steroids. Several members of the Fletcher family were also involved in the steroid dealing business. His son Paul Michael Fletcher pleaded guilty to six steroid charges. His nephew shot-putter Carl Fletcher had previously pleaded guilty to possession of steroids with intent to supply back in March 2011. [Read more…]

Germany Spies on Steroid Users with Trojan Horse

A German bodybuilder identified as “Dimitry A” is currently serving a 4-1/2 year prison sentence for the distribution of anabolic steroids.  He was arrested in February 2010 after German investigators used a Trojan horse program to infiltrate his personal computer.

This type of computer surveillance has been used as a last resort for serious threats posed by criminals who use cyber-communications such as militant terrorists (and now apparently steroid dealers). [Read more…]
