Malcolm Gladwell Disappoints in Latest Steroid Discussion

Malcolm Gladwell, the best-selling author of The Tipping Point and Outliers, provided an uncharacteristically disappointing discussion of anabolic steroids in sports with Nicholas Thompson for the New Yorker Magazine. Baseball Hall of Fame Loses Credibility If Steroid Users Not Included

Rafael Palmeiro thinks that the Baseball Hall of Fame loses credibility if it fails to include two baseball players linked to anabolic steroids. Palmeiro would consider it a great honor if he were elected to the Hall of Fame but he has accepted that he will likely never be inducted into Cooperstown because of his positive steroid test for Winstrol. But he thinks that two players, who were also linked to steroids, played on an entirely different level than he did. And they should be inducted, steroids or not. [Read more…]

Most people have heard about aggression as a possible side effect of steroid use. Stories of “roid rage” have appeared regularly in the news. But according to Henderson and Clark, teenage steroid users may face something more serious than the short-term prospect of steroid-induced aggression. [Read more…]

2012 London Olympics Dirty Little Secret – Anti-Doping Program Sucks

Alan Abramson recently penned an article that questioned the credibility of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) steroid testing program. WADA may be administering more and more anti-doping tests every year. And the 2012 Summer Olympics in London may set a new record for the number of athletes and the number of drug tests. But this is meaningless if the anti-doping protocols are ineffective at catching athletes using prohibited performance-enhancing drugs (PEDs). [Read more…]
