Anti-Doping Agency Working on Hair Testing to Detect Clenbuterol

The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) is considering the introduction of hair testing analysis in addition to blood and urine testing. Anti-doping experts hope that hair analysis can detect whether drugs such as clenbuterol were ingested intentionally or innocently via contaminated food products.

Tour de France champion Alberto Contador tested positive for infinitesimally small amounts of clenbuterol. The detected levels were unlikely to have any type of performance-enhancing benefit for the athlete. However, WADA has a zero-tolerance policy when it comes to clenbuterol so that any amount is sufficient to impose a ban. [Read more…]

Orange County Choppers Founder Labeled Steroid User by Albany Newspaper

Paul Teutul, the founder of the Orange County Choppers and star of the reality television series, “American Chopper,” is the latest celebrity to have his private prescription records exposed by Senior Writer Brendan Lyons of the Albany Times-Union newspaper. The Times-Union has a history of doing this in the name of “investigative journalism”.

The Albany Times-Union has previously released the names of affluent and successful professional athletes and entertainers who may have used steroids according to private prescription records that the Albany County District Attorney’s Office seized from Signature Pharmacy in Florida. This information conveniently and repeatedly made it into the hands of Lyons of the Albany Times-Union. [Read more…]

Texas State Trooper Pleads Guilty to Selling Steroids in HEB Parking Lot

Former Department of Public Safety Trooper “Jeffery J” pleaded guilty to three counts of delivery of a controlled substance. The Texas State Trooper admitted selling trenbolone, nandrolone and stanozolol for $800 to a Kerrville Police Officer in a steroid deal in the local H-E-B parking lot on September 7, 2009. Kerrville cop “Danny S” was fired from the department on September 18, 2009 after an internal affairs investigation into the steroid deal.

State Trooper “Jeffrey J.” faces up to 6 years on the three State charges when he is sentenced next month. He was also indicted on Federal charges involving one count of conspiracy to distribute anabolic steroids along with co-defendants Jeffrey H, Mike T, and Ray Q. He faces a maximum of five years in prison on that charge. The federal trial is scheduled to begin at the end of the month. [Read more…]

Stockton Police Department and Participation in Steroid Black Market

The arrest of a California police officer on suspicion of steroid trafficking has prompted an internal investigation of potential anabolic steroid use by officers in the Stockton Police Department. “Darrin Fa.” was arrested last month after his own department ordered surveillance on his activities and busted him in possession of significant quantities of anabolic steroids in an undercover sting operation.

The numerous headlines about steroid use among law enforcement around the country has led to Police Chief Blair Ulring conducting a department-wide investigation even though there no evidence has been reported suggesting involvement by additional officers.

Most journalists reporting on the problem of cops and steroids usually focus on the alleged association between anabolic steroids and aggression in popular culture even though the scientific evidence for such a connection is tenuous. However, Christian Burkin of The Record addresses the issues related to cops and steroids that the public should be concerned about [Read more…]

Bouncers on Steroids Are the Greatest Threat to Public Safety

Bouncers who use anabolic steroids represent the greatest threat to public safety according to a leading doctor in Gold Coast, Australia. I’m not sure what is most surprising: the fact that a “leading doctor” believes that bouncers on steroids are society’s biggest social problem or the fact that a “journalist” saw it as her to duty to write a news story that perpetuates hysteria about steroid side effects.

At any rate, the president of the Gold Coast Medical Association is making a full-on attack on the “roid-rage induced violence” that has been reeking havoc on the surfer’s paradise in Australia [Read more…]

Steroids Capture Headline in Gun and Domestic Violence Case

A Greenlander was arrested by police in New Hampshire on nine steroid-related felony charges. Things went from bad to worse for “Cullen M” after he was arrested for assaulting a woman in the summer of 2010. As a result, he was prohibited from possessing firearms. Police went to his house to confiscate his weapons and discover several vials of anabolic steroids that included testosterone , trenbolone and nandrolone . While the Greenland citizen has a history of violence, it is the possession of steroid that could land him in big trouble. It’s not the violence that gained the headlines or the attention of the district attorney, it is the steroids [Read more…]

The Doping Philosophy of Cyclist Christophe Bassons

Cyclist Christophe Bassons has never used banned performance-enhancing drugs. This isn’t an unusual proclamation from a pro cyclist in a sport where cyclists continually deny using PEDs in spite of the evidence against them. However, Bassons is different in that many people actually believe him.

Some people may find his decision to avoid PEDs as admirable and even “courageous”. However, Bassons refuses to claim any sort of moral superiority because of his choice. He does not condemn cyclists such as Floyd Landis who have admitted using drugs such as testosterone and erythropoietin in their quest to win the Tour de France. [Read more…]

Authors of German Steroid Handbook Arrested in International Pharmaceuticals Bust

The authors of the popular German-language steroid handbook entitled “Anabole Steroide – Das Schwarze Buch” (“Anabolic Steroids – The Black Book”) were recently arrested in connection with an underground steroid lab in Europe known as International Pharmaceuticals. This is a completely separate and distinct operation from the UGL operating in China under the same name.

The authors of “The Black Book” were identified by the Austrian Federal Criminal Office (BK) as German citizen “Lothar K” and Austrian citizen “Paul R.”. Together with “Thomas St”, the trio allegedly operated and distributed anabolic steroids worldwide under the IP-Europe label for almost two decades. [Read more…]

Mike Piazza Used Steroids Based on Back Acne According to Sportswriter

Murray Chass continues to assert that “back acne” is conclusive proof of anabolic steroid use in Mike Piazza – and Barry Bonds. Chass noticed acne on Piazza’s back several years ago and has been convinced that Piazza was a steroid user ever since.  While acne on the shoulders and back is often a side effects experienced by steroid users, most people who experience this problem do not use steroids; many steroid users, depending on the selection of steroids and individual susceptibility, don’t experience this side effect. Consequently, acne is a very poor method of determining whether an individual uses anabolic steroids due to the high number of false positive and false negatives. [Read more…]

Texas May Eliminate Failed Steroid Testing in High Schools

Officials in Texas are prepared to eliminate the embarrassingly expensive and ineffective UIL Anabolic Steroid Testing Program. In 2008, Texas passed legislation mandating drug-testing programs for anabolic steroids in students competing in extracurricular sports at public high schools. It was the largest and most costly steroid testing program in the history of high school sports. Several million dollars later, with little to show the taxpayers in the way of results, the legislature is currently unable to find funding to continue the program. [Read more…]
