Oklahoma City police officer Chad Peery may be a quadriplegic after sustaining severe injuries during an attack by three men as he attempted to escort them from Dan O’Brien’s Public House in northwest Oklahoma City. Joshua Rinken, Jimmy Smith and Cadmio Lopez have been charged with one count of maiming and one count of conspiracy to commit assault and battery upon a police officer.

Rinken’s alleged use of anabolic steroids has been referenced numerous times in news accounts possibly implying that steroids played a role in the violent attack. The Australia Sports Anti-Doping Authority (ASADA) has joined local police to target bodybuilders who use anabolic steroids to enhance appearance. Operation Narcissist was a six-month investigation involving the Northern Region Drug Squad and Townsville’s Criminal Investigation Branch working in collaboration with ASADA.

Detective Acting Senior-Sergeant John Mahony discussed how the high-level “intelligence” made it possible for law enforcement to infiltrate gyms and determine that bodybuilders use anabolic steroids. [Read more…]
