Immigration and Customs Employee May Go to Prison for Selling Steroids

A former detention officer at the Buffalo Federal Detention Facility in Batavia pleaded guilty to one count of possession with intent to distribute anabolic steroids. Richard Eldridge was employed by the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), the United States Department of Homeland Security and the Office of Inspector General, under the direction of  Special Agent in Charge Gregory Null, conducted an extensive investigation into allegations that prison employees were moonlighting as steroid dealers.

Bodybuilders who import steroids and performance-enhancing drugs from international sources occasionally have their shipments seized by customs officers in the Department of Homeland Security. Needless to say, ICE employees are not too popular with steroid users. They would probably enjoy the irony of a “customs” officers going to jail for selling steroids.

Eldridge was one of three prison employees who were busted as a result of the investigation. Richard Lazzaro, a federal contract employee working as a detention officer, was arrested after he sold almost a thousand Dianabol tablets along with some injectable testosterone to a confidential informant cooperating with the FBI. Michael Trautmann, a federal detention officer, was the third employee at the Buffalo prison to be charged with steroid distribution

The trio were accused of selling a variety of steroids including Deca Durabolin, Anadrol, Anavar, testosterone enanthate, Equipoise, testosterone propionate and Dianabol.

Eldridge faces up to ten years imprisonment. He is scheduled to be sentenced in July.
