Assault by Naked Bodybuilder Blamed on Steroids

A 300-pound naked bodybuilder who violently started attacking people in a residential neighborhood in Colton (California) was “under the influence of steroids” and other drugs according to the Associated Press.

The Sun of San Bernardino reported that officers suspected the man was using steroids although they had not conducted any tests to determine if this were true. Of course, the popular stereotype of bodybuilders on steroids exhibiting “roid rage” makes investigators (and media) quick to blame steroids.

A couple returned to their Colton home Saturday just before midnight to discover Ruben Arzu naked on their porch. The husband was brutally beaten when he confronted the naked man. His wife was also attacked after she dialed 9-1-1.  Arzu picked her up above his head and threw her around the room.

The husband suffered severe head trauma and the wife suffered lacerations on her face and head. They were hospitalized at the Arrowhead Regional Medical Center for several days after the incident.

Arzu attempted to attack neighbors as they tried to help the couple.  The neighbors surrounded him until police arrived. It took four officers, two taser gun jolts and four pairs of handcuffs to subdue him.

The 300-pound Arzu was placed in custody on “suspicion of aggravated mayhem and attempted homicide”. He was hospitalized at the Arrowhead Regional Medical Center for treatment of injuries incurred during the incident on Saturday. However, one news report (International Business Times) claimed Arzu had to be rushed to the hospital for immediate “steroid abuse treatment”!

Arzu was transferred to West Valley Detention Center in Rancho Cucamonga on Tuesday and held in lieu of $1 million bail.
