Steven Woods, the owner of Competitive Edge Labs and Serious Nutrition Solutions, recently walked out of jail after posting a $1,000,000 bond. He was arrested last month and charged with two counts related to the distribution of anabolic steroids and five counts of money laundering. Law enforcement authorities and local news outlets have made reference to a business through which Woods distributed steroids but have not identified the name or nature of the business(es). Girlfriend and Mother Go to Jail After Hiding Steroids for Inmate
An inmate at a Connecticut state prison called his girlfriend and asked her to dispose of an illegal anabolic steroid stash hidden in his apartment in Manchester (Connecticut). Unbeknownst to Paul Dipietro, his conversation with his girlfriend was recorded by prison officials. They alerted the East Central Narcotics Task Force in Manchester of the plan. An man from Iowa was sentenced to 20 months imprisonment for his participation in an international conspiracy involving the distribution of anabolic steroids. Ronald Sales had pleaded guilty and admitted to his role in a multi-million dollar international steroid operation. Sales was one of several individuals located within the United States that was working for a steroid distribution ring masterminded by Oleksanr “Musclebear” Skochyk from his home in the Ukraine. Bodybuilding is booming in Afghanistan. While bodybuilding has always been popular in the country, it really took off after the United States invasion in 2001 led by former President George W. Bush in response to the events of September 11, 2001. The oppressive Taliban had previously outlawed all music and all sports with the curious exception of bodybuilding. United Kingdom Amends Steroid Laws to Ban Importation via Mail
The British government has accepted the recommendations of the Advisory Council on the Misuse of Drugs (“ACMD”) concerning the existing steroid laws in the country. The personal possession of anabolic steroids for self-administration has been legal under the 1971 Misuse of Drugs Act. It will remain legal given the low level of harm associated with the use of steroids. However, the government will amend the steroid laws so that it will become illegal to import personal use quantities by mail. This effectively criminalizes the purchase of steroids over the internet from the thousands of internet pharmacies selling steroids. [Read more…]
Texas Cracking Down on Steroid-Using Bodybuilders “Wanting to Cheat the System”
The head of the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office Special Investigations Unit (SIU) is working to stop the flow of anabolic steroids to bodybuilders “wanting to cheat the system.” Bodybuilders who use steroids are apparently not only breaking the law but are also immoral cheaters according to Lt. Phillip Cash. The term “cheater” is usually applied to athletes involved in competitive sports who use performance-enhancing drugs in violation of the sport’s anti-doping code; they cheat the other athletes who presumably follow the rules. Yet bodybuilders who use steroids outside of a sporting context in order to improve physical appearance aren’t really “cheating” anyone else. Nonetheless, Lt. Doctor and Satellite Technician Plead Guilty for Moonlighting as Steroid Dealers
An Alabama physician and satellite technician pleaded guilty last week for their illicit activities moonlighting as steroid dealers.
