United States Anti-Doping Agency May Strip Lance Armstrong of Tour de France Titles

The United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) may seek to strip Lance Armstrong of his Tour de France victories and earnings according to the Washington Post. The eight-time Tour de France champion is currently under investigation by the United States Attorney’s Office in Los Angeles. It is believed that a grand jury is considering whether to indict Lance Armstrong on charges of defrauding the U.S. government.

Armstrong was a member of the United States Postal Service cycling team and since the U.S. Postal Service is a government agency, anyone who defrauded the government by using anabolic steroids, erythropoeitin (EPO), or other banned substances or methods such as blood doping, could face serious criminal penalties. Lance Armstrong Book Co-Author Responds to Doping Allegations Against the Cyclist

Sally Jenkins, the co-author of Lance Armstrong’s book “It’s Not About The Bike” and Washington Post sports columnist, still believes Armstrong did not use performance-enhancing drugs (PEDs). Jenkins wrote in an online chat that her opinion is based on her personal relationship with Armstrong in which she judges her friends based on her personal interactions with them. She had asked Lance Armstrong “point blank” if he had used steroids or PEDs and he denied it. However, she acknowledges that she cannot be completely objective when it comes to the issue. Jenkins admits that Lance Armstrong could “never disappoint” her even if he lied about his use of PEDs. [Read more…]

India National Anti-Doping Agency Reports Powerlifters and Bodybuilders Use A Lot of Steroids

The use of anabolic steroids in powerlifting and bodybuilding is generally thought to be pervasive in the sports. In the United States, few major sporting leagues implement steroid testing protocols compliant with the Anti-Doping Code published by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA).

The National Football League, Major League Baseball and the National Basketball Association have all adopted some form of anti-doping for their athletes but none approximate the “gold standard” of testing published by WADA. Golf Forced to Seek Credibility of Anti-Doping World

The PGA Tour, the organization that runs the men’s professional golf tournaments in North America, is being forced to adopt the anti-doping protocols of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) in advance of the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

PGA Tour Commissioner Tim Finchem told the New York Daily News that they are already performing several anti-doping tests that are pointless when it comes to professional golf performance. After all, only one professional golfer in the history of the PGA Tour has been banned for a doping violation.

Nonetheless, Finchem acknowledges that the PGA Tour is being forced to implement WADA-type testing just so that the PGA Tour anti-doping program has the “credibility” of the anti-doping world. [Read more…]

Shane Mosely and Floyd Mayweather Steroid Accusations Against Manny Pacquiao

Manny Pacquiao has repeatedly been accused of using anabolic steroids by his opponents and his many detractors. Floyd Mayweather Jr. and his good friend rapper Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson have taken to Twitter to accuse Pacquiao of steroid use.

“50 Cent” had accused boxer Manny Pacquiao of using anabolic steroids in a series of messages posted on Twitter in March while hanging out with Floyd Mayweather to promote his new film, “Things Fall Apart”, at the Miami Film Festival.

A much anticipated “super fight” between Mayweather and Pacquiao was originally delayed last year after Mayweather insisted on “Olympic-style” steroid testing. Mayweather has repeatedly avoided fighting with Pacquiao often citing some version of his steroid accusations as his reason. [Read more…]
