Moustache Cream Results in Positive Steroid Test for Japanese Rugby Player

A Japanese rugby player probably wishes he had used anabolic steroids to enhance his performance, much like other athletes who use steroids, after it was revealed that his desperate desire for a moustache was the cause of a failed steroid test. Ryohei Yamanaka had been planning on representing Japan in the 2011 Rugby World Cup in New Zealand in September.

Christian Anti-Steroid Company Allegedly Spikes Supplements with Methyltestosterone

United States District Judge Rodney W. Sippel in Missouri awarded $5.4 million to a professional football player in a case involving a “tainted” dietary supplement. St. Louis Ram linebacker David Vobora filed a lawsuit against the manufacturer of the Ultimate Sports Spray alleging that a “velvet deer antler” supplement caused him to test positive for methyltestosterone metabolites. Methyltestosterone is banned by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) and the NFL Policy on Anabolic Steroids and Related Substance. [Read more…]

Bodybuilders have used clenbuterol for its well-known fat loss properties and its purported anabolic properties ever since Dan Duchaine recommended the substance over two decades ago. Japanese Greco-Roman Wrestler and MMA Prospect Tests Positive for Masteron

Japanese Greco-Roman wrestling champion and MMA prospect Katsuya Kitamura tested positive for the anabolic steroid drostanolone. Drostanolone enanthate is the active ingredient in Masteron. The Japanese Anti-Doping Agency (JADA) banned Kitamura for two years which means he will miss the 2012 London Olympics. The three-time Japanese national champion in the 96-kilo Greco-Roman wrestling weight class had hoped to represent Japan once again on the international stage. [Read more…]

New York Times Claims Steroids Banned in Horse-Racing

The New York Times recently reported that the use of anabolic steroids is banned in horse-racing. The Times article leads readers to believe that anabolic steroids are no longer used in horses – at all. This is highly misleading since the Racing Medication and Testing Consortium has actually approved the therapeutic use of four anabolic steroids in equine athletes. [Read more…]

Pro Cyclist Banned for Using Jintropin hGH and Eposino EPO

The United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) issued a lifetime ban to American professional cyclist Phillip Zajicek after he admitted using Jintropin-brand human growth hormone (hGH) and Eposino-brand erythropoeitin (EPO).  USADA has a “three strikes” policy that results in a lifetime ban. Zajicek was first banned in 2004 after testing positive for the use of a banned stimulant. The second violation of USADA’s anti-doping policy involved the hGH and EPO admission. Zajicek also admitted providing false testimony and encouraging other witnesses to provide false testimony at doping hearing; USADA considered this his third violation of the anti-doping policy and consequently banned him for life. Derrick Rose and the Huge Steroid Problem in Basketball

Chicago Bulls guard Derrick Rose allegedly told ESPN the Magazine that the use of performance-enhancing drugs, which includes drugs such as anabolic steroids, was a “huge” problem in the National Basketball Association. Most people don’t think that steroid use is a significant problem in the NBA. Only two NBA players have tested positive for anabolic steroids – Memphis Grizzlies’ O.J.
