Wrestler Kurt Angle Continues to Deny Using Steroids for Performance Enhancement

Kurt Angle continued to deny using anabolic steroids for performance enhancement in a recent interview with Mac Engel for the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. The 1996 Olympic gold-medal-winning freestyle wrestler, who has established himself as a popular professional wrestler with the WWE and TNA, maintained that he was prescribed a steroid stack comprised of trenbolone acetate (“tren”) and nandrolone decanoate (“Deca Durabolin” or “Deca”) for legitimate medical purposes and not for performance-enhancement purposes. Anabolic Steroids Contributed to Boxer’s Death According to Commission

The Arkansas Athletic Commission concluded that a boxer’s use of anabolic steroids may have contributed to his death after a January boxing match. Anthony Jones was knocked out by Quincy Palmer during a heavyweight boxing match on January 29, 2011 in Benton, Arkansas. Jones showed obvious signs of impairment in a videotape of the bout. However, the commission’s ringside doctor did not recognize the existence of a life-threatening emergency. Jones was sent to the hospital in an ambulance as a precaution. The 28-year old amateur boxer died of multiple organ failure and cardiac arrest at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS). [Read more…]

Congressman Thinks Roger Clemens Suffered Enough in Steroids Case

A former Congressman, who was highly active in the Congressional witch-hunt targeting athletes who used anabolic steroids, doesn’t believe the Justice Department should continue its pursuit of Roger Clemens on charges that he lied about his use of steroids. Former United States Representative Tom Davis doesn’t seem to think Clemens is telling the truth but he feels that Clemens has suffered enough and has already paid the price for lying to Congress. Obstruction of Justice Conviction Upheld in Barry Bonds Steroid Case

United States District Judge Susan Illston upheld the conviction of Barry Bonds on obstruction of justice charge. The government had hoped to prove that Bonds lied about his use of anabolic steroids and human growth hormone in the multi-million dollar perjury case against the baseball slugger. They had charged him with three counts of perjury for specific lies about his steroid use during grand jury testimony. However, Bonds was essentially cleared after a hung jury resulted in a mistrial on all three charges and the prosecution declined the opportunity to retry Bonds on the three perjury charges. Libyan Dictator’s Son Used Anabolic Steroids to Play Professional Soccer

One of the sons of deposed dictator Colonel Muammar Gaddafi used anabolic steroids while playing professional soccer in Italy according to several reports. Al-Saadi Al-Gaddafi is reportedly negotiating his surrender after the collapse of his father’s 44-year dictatorship amidst the Libyan civil war. In better times, Saadi played professional soccer for the Italian Series A club Perugia. His 3-season career, consisting of a total of 26 minutes of playing time, has likely come to an end. Italy’s Anti-Narcotic Group (NAS) continues its aggressive anti-doping investigations of athletes suspected of using anabolic steroids, erythropoeitin and other performancing-enhancing drugs. The latest investigation involving a Mantovana pharmacy is starting to appear like a witch-hunt if cyclist Michael Rasmussen is to be believed.
