Steroids + Female MMA = Twitter Catfight?

UFC President Dana White may have prematurely announced the end of the female featherweight division in Strikeforce. White told ESPN Radio Las Vegas that Cristiane “Cyborg” Santos’ positive steroid test results would mark the end of the division. “[Cyborg Santos is] getting stripped of the title. This pretty much kills the division,” according to White.

Maybe White didn’t anticipate the extra publicity resulting from the Winstrol metabolites discovered in Santos’ urine sample. He certainly didn’t anticipate the heated war of the words on Twitter between some of female mixed martial arts’ biggest stars. [Read more…]

Gina Carano Talks Steroids and Women’s Mixed Martial Arts

Gina Carano was once the “face of women’s MMA” when she faced Cristiane “Cyborg” Santos for the first-ever Strikeforce Women’s Championship contested at the 145 weight class on August 15, 2009. The Unified Women’s MMA Rankings listed her as the third-ranked 145-pound female mixed martial artist in the world.

Carano was told that “Cyborg” was using anabolic steroids but Carano didn’t want to consider that possibility as she entered the biggest contest of her MMA career. J.C. Romero Still Guilty of Steroid Offense Even Though He Thinks He’s Vindicated

Philadelphia Phillies relief pitcher J.C. Romero has claimed victory in a lawsuit following an undisclosed cash settlement with the manufacturers and distributors of Ergopharm 6-OXO Extreme. Romero tested positive for the use of anabolic steroids under the Major League Baseball (MLB) Joint Drug Prevention and Treatment Program on August 26, 2008. Some Steroid-Using Baseball Players Were Simply the Best According to Barry Larkin

Major League Baseball player Barry Larkin, a twelve-time All-Star shortstop for the Cincinnati Reds, was easily elected to the National Baseball Hall of Fame this week. Baseball writers once again debated the issue of electing admitted or suspected steroid users to the Hall when casting their votes. Larkin couldn’t even enjoy the honor of joining the Hall of Fame without being hounded for his opinion on anabolic steroids. Cristiane Justino Venancio Santos, commonly known as Chris “Cyborg” Santos, has tested positive for anabolic steroids. The positive steroid test result occurred during Strikeforce: Melendez vs. Masvidal at the Valley View Casino Center in San Diego on December 17, 2011.
