Two major figures in the Norwegian world of bodybuilding have been detained for allegedly selling anabolic steroids according to the newspaper Dagens Næringsliv (DN). Sør-Trøndelag Police have alleged that popular local fitness experts Robert Eilertsen and Gunnar Strand Jacobsen were two of the men allegedly involved in selling steroids on the private internet website called “Anabolic Forum”. Federal prosecutors have ended the criminal investigation of seven-time Tour de France champion Lance Armstrong. The investigation examined evidence that Armstrong’s U.S. Postal Service pro cycling team used anabolic steroids and performance-enhancing drugs during the time it received government sponsorship. Nebraska Doctor Avoids Jail for Writing Steroid Prescriptions
Nebraska doctor Raymond Heller has avoided prison for his role in the criminal case involving the illegal distribution of anabolic steroids by the Max Life anti-aging clinic. Heller pleaded guilty to prescribing the testosterone outside the usual course of professional medical practice. United States District Judge Claire Eagan sentenced Heller to five years of probation with the first eight months under house arrest and 100 hours of community service. [Read more…]
Steroids Demonized in Movie “Bullhead”
Michael R. Roskam’s film “Bullhead” (aka “Rundskop”) is a movie featuring two parallel stories involving anabolic steroids. It involves the story of a cattle farmer who becomes “addicted” to steroids to compensate for his sexual mutilation as a child. It also involves the story a meat inspector who was assassinated by the “hormone mafia” because he wanted to expose the illegal trafficking of anabolic steroids for use in cattle and livestock by elements of organized crime in Belgium. Jose Canseco Plays Baseball in Mexico Without Steroids
Jose Canseco, the former Major League Baseball Player who exposed steroid use in baseball with his autobiographical book “Juiced”, has been invited to try out for the “Tigres de Quintana Roo” of Cancun. The Quintana Roo Tigers are the defending champions of the Mexican Baseball League. The League is the only Minor League Baseball sanctioned triple-A league outside of the United States. Steroid Exemptions for Testosterone Replacement Therapy Rare in MMA
Several high-profile fighters in the sport of mixed martial arts (MMA) have publicly acknowledged their use of anabolic steroids as part of a doctor-prescribed and medically-supervised testosterone replacement therapy (TRT). Keith Kizer, the executive director of the Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC), is concerned that this has created the perception that Nevada indiscriminately grants steroid exemptions that allow MMA fighters to use testosterone. Kirk Radomski has gone from selling anabolic steroids and human growth hormone to selling legal dietary supplements. Radomski is the infamous steroid dealer who named 3o current and former Major League Baseball players among his steroid-using clients after being busted by federal agents in December 2005. Canadian Football Player Busted for Steroids Gets Second Chance
Football player Jordan Matechuk has received a second chance to play professional football. The Canadian Football League’s Winnipeg Blue Bombers signed Matechuk to a contract this month. Matechuk, acting on the advice of his agent Fred Weinrauch, had sent a letter of apology and contrition to all the teams in the CFL after he was released from jail. James Gahan, the father who infamously injected his 13-year old son with anabolic steroids to help him become an Olympic athlete, has completed his six-year prison sentence and is talking to high school athletes about steroids. Gahan had pleaded guilty to possessing and distributing anabolic steroid testosterone to a minor. He collaborated with a Florida coach and trainer to provide his son with the anabolic steroids testosterone and Deca Durabolin, human growth hormone (hGH) and human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) beginning as early as May 24, 2004. The dreams of a Greco-Roman wrestler who had hoped to represent Canada in the 2012 London Olympics have ended after he was caught using anabolic steroids, diuretics and a selective estrogen receptor modulator (SERMs).
