The question of anabolic steroid use was on everybody’s mind during the UFC 141 media press conference. UFC 141 is showcasing two massively muscled athletes, Brock Lesnar and Alistair Overeem, in the 265 pound heavyweight class. Lesnar and Overeem are scheduled to fight as the main event card of UFC 141 in Las Vegas at the end of the month.
Both Lesnar and Overeem have been accused of using anabolic steroids based on their extremely muscular physical appearance.
However, UFC heavyweight contender Overeem was the one in the hot seat after he failed to submit a urine sample for steroid testing as mandated by the Nevada State Athletic Commission.
Former UFC heavyweight champion Lesnar empathized with the situation faced by Alistair Overeem.
“I’ve been dealing with the same (steroid) accusations my whole life,” Lesnar said. “Being part of the spotlight and being I guess with the Internet and everything these days – and being social media and everybody knows everything – it’s part of the lifestyle.”
Steroid rumors have quietly circulated during Alistair Overeem’s dramatic transformation from a 185 pound 17-year old fighter to a 260 pound heavyweight mixed martial artist. Now that Overeem has been signed to the UFC, the gossip mill has exploded with steroid suspicions.
Overeem told the press that he was too busy to deal with the steroid rumors as he prepared to fight Lesnar.
“The thing is, I’m very busy with my career — it’s not only just training, it’s a lot of other stuff on top of it, which is assembling the team, PR, doing all these interviews — so I’m very occupied with that,” said Overeem. “I simply don’t have the time to get into all these (steroid) allegations.”
UFC 141 will be hosted at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on December 30, 2011.
